Biotechnology is the
application of knowledge and technology developed from our
observations and understanding of the materials
(bio-materials) and processes already existing in nature.
God has perfected nature with biomaterials and processes
ready to be exploited for the benefits and survival of human
beings. The Qur’an is full with verses reminding human
beings to ponder & contemplate on nature, from its teeming
microbes to myriads of plant and animal species to the
mega-diverse ecosystems to find various solutions and
applications in our life.
 One such Holy Verse
says “Behold, in the creation of the heavens and the
earth, and the alternation of night and day, are indeed signs for men of understanding, those who remembers God
while they are standing, sitting and lying down on their
sides, and who contemplates on the creation of the heavens
and the earth, and say “Our Lord, Indeed You did not create
all these in vain, Glory be To You, provide us salvation
from the Fire” (Al-Imran: 190-191). It was precisely
this call to study & contemplates nature that catapulted the
Islamic Civilization to lead the world in scientific
discovery during its golden ages.
